Counter Intelligence

Oh sure, any time anywhere - as long as it's a drugstore counter. Tums are great as long as you just camp out in Woolworth's on one of those red leatherette stools, I guess. Otherwise, good luck with that indigestion.*

And if Acid Indigestion is hitting you, I'd just move further down the counter. Incidentally, what do they think you're having for breakfast that requires you to start chomping on Tums as soon as it hits your stomach? Maybe the Woolworth's blue plate special. Perhaps that is why Acid Indigestion is acting out.

*I do know what they mean, actually, they mean you should buy it at the counter but nowhere else... Not even if you see it for sale in another part of the store! Otherwise the Tums will not work!

So, if my stomach hurts after dinner I should wait until after breakfast to take my Tums? Hmmmm....

My recollection of a Woolworths lunch counter experience consisting of a greasy grilled cheese sandwich and Coca Cola from the fountain would require at least a couple of Tums, maybe even Pepto! Probably was a big seller on their counters.

Tums...they're like after-breakfast mints, only better.

Yeah! Why do they automatically assume breakfast is going to give you acid indigestion? What do you do if you skip breakfast???

Clearly a case where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. If someone needs Tums anytime, anywhere, at home or away, they should try changing their eating habits.

As soon as I saw the word Tums, I was blinded by the throaty "Tum de Tum Tums." I think it was a commercial or was it in my indigestion dreams?

Your blog is hysterical. Your wry take on the retro is dead-on.

I'd love to add you to my blogroll -- see if you like my stuff and would want to reciprocate the favor!

Keep up the good work!!

Lin - Yes, and you ought to be at the drugstore counter, too, for them to work best.

Maureen - Our Woolworth's didn't even have a counter! But I went there every Saturday with my mom and it was THE event of the week (this was late 60s).

Needless To Say - And now they come in chocolate and vanilla! (they do, actually)

Tori - That's what I want to know! I think they know something about this breakfast...

Bill - Exactly! But of course they want us to pack a boatload of Tums everywhere we go...I have another ad that is all about how you can buy a three-pack and isn't that great...

Louise - That's their theme song! :)

sassafrasjunction - Thank you, I will definitely check you out, and you are totally welcome to add KR onto your blogroll, of course! :)

I believe I would stop eating at THAT drugstore counter if I kept getting that dreaded Acid Indigesion.

Or, perhaps, they can just make a Tum's Blueplate Special :->

Leatherette stools!!! It's just not the same at Walgreens. Sad, really.

I think TUMS are only effective when you eat 5 or more of them as well. So the pack goes down in 2 takes... Why don't they just make big wafer cookie TUMS? Then you're not only curing the acid reflux, but you're also getting one of the most important food groups... cookie.

Prefers Her Fantasy Life - No, it sure isn't the same. I like Walgreen's though, haven't been in one all that often (don't have them in Canada).

RaBT - If only they had thought of that!
