Bob and the Tuna Macaroni Loaf

See how much Bob likes that Tuna Macaroni Loaf? He has turned into a large, slightly glum disembodied head, that's how much.

But the can of Star-Kist is convinced, even if the rest of us aren't. It is so excited that it has learned how to talk. And also to hear! It thinks Bob's head has told it it is the Best Tuna. But Bob remains silent, lost in thought.

And you know what he's thinking? He's thinking: how on earth am I supposed to star in "Fancy Pants" when I'm just a giant head?

Here is something the Star-Kist can could sing, to help jolly Bob's Head out of its existential gloom - set to the tune of "Yankee Doodle":

Bob Hope's Head's a giant Un-
Enthusiastic phony
Stuck some tuna in a mold
And added macaroni;

Bob Hope Head, just keep it up
Say that loaf is dandy
Lest the tuna can derail
Your modus operandi.

[From Life, October 16, 1950, big version here.]

Anyone who can work Bob Hope and "modus operandi" into a ditty about tuna is my hero forever.

Isolating a celebrity's head for an advertising endorsement (in the pre-Photoshop days) seems to be a very popular thing back in the day...a little freaky looking, too!

Thanks for your recent visits to my blog and your comments. Have a great weekend!

Macaroni and tuna loaf, eh? Something tells me Bob and his disembodied face was paid handsomely for this.

"Tuna of the Stars"...heady stuff, that.
Barbara Stanwyck and John Wayne also had their favorite Star-Kist Tuna recipes. Bing Crosby favored Star-Kist Tuna Dumplings.
I wonder which of today's stars would submit their favorite recipes for Star-Kist Tuna?

He might also be thinking, "How can I star in 'Fancy Pants' with this killer case of tuna breath?"

At first, I thought, "Eww, macaroni loaf?". Then I realized it was tuna macaroni loaf. I can no longer quell the nausea.

When I saw your picture of Bob Hope on Pinterest, I immediately thought of a picture I posted of him for Oscar night. If you get a chance Lidian, take a pop over to the post. I think YOU will get a kick out of it!!!
